100% Rock. That’s what you get when you see Eddie and the Hot Rods live!
Definitely not a band going through the motions and regurgitating songs for nostalgic consumption. What you have here is a bunch of guy’s really wired up to entertain. Right from the opening bars of the first number you get it right between the ears, a tsunami of sound on which Barrie Masters vocals ride. The original Hot Rod front man hangs in there with the best line up of musicians he has ever had behind him.
The bedrock of the band is Simon on drums who knocks out a deafening beat from start to finish. In front of Simon is “Dipster” on bass, the big man, ripping chords from his Rickenbacker, strutting, posing and leering at the audience, laughing and enjoying every minute.
Flanking these guys are the two newest band members Richard and Chris, both guitarists at the top of their game. No conflicting egos here just contrasting styles that somehow compliment each other. These guys know what solid rock is all about they switch solos at will, just for the fun of it. That’s the other thing about the Hot Rods, the wilder things get the more they enjoy their task.
Up front and loving every minute of the organised chaos behind him is the one and only Barrie Masters !!!
Masters orchestrates his band urging them on (as if they need it), shaking his head in disbelief when on occasions someone pulls something extra special out of the hat. His vocals punctuate the sound and heighten the drama creating that unique Hot Rod atmosphere.
They cut through their set mixing classics like Teenage Depression, The Power and the Glory and Do Anything You Want To Do with excellent new numbers from their latest album Better Late Than Never. Songs like Need Your touch, Better Without You and Bad Time Again. There are also one or two cover versions thrown in for good measure, The Kids Are Alright (The Who) and Gloria (Van Morrison), high tempo, high energy and, highly entertaining.
Ladies and Gentlemen be prepared to start your engines !!!
